Girls Go Green

Girl Scouts are leaders who help make the world a better place. One way you can help make the world a better place is to protect the environment. As a Girl Scout, you can participate in many different program activities to learn about the environment and help reduce waste and save resources. When Girl Scouts like you go green, the result is a better world and a brighter future for everyone.

You can start by taking these easy steps to going green at home. Take action and share the 10 steps with friends, family, your troop and fellow students at school. Just print out the list! Hang it in your room to remind yourself to go green every day. Cut out each step as a reminder and post them all around your home to encourage your family and neighbors to take steps to help make the world a better place too.

1. Separate your trash and recycle it. Get information from local recycling centers.

2. Take a quick shower instead of a bath. You will save water.

3. Swap a light bulb. Change a light bulb to a compact florescent bulb (CFB). They save 75% electricity.

4. Safely refill and reuse a clean bottle to take with you for water or other drinks. Don't use disposable plastic bottles if you don't need to.

5. Unplug electronics when you are not using them.

6. Cut plastic milk containers in half and use them as planters, or fill them with water and use them as an outdoor water dish for your dog or cat.

7. Use less paper. Print from the computer only when you need to and save used paper. You can use the other side for notes and drawing.

8. Plant a tree.

9. Turn off the water while you brush your teeth.

10. Fold clothes that can be worn again instead of throwing them in the dirty laundry.

As a green Girl Scout, you probably have lots of great ideas about what you can do to reduce waste and make the world a better place. Please share an idea with ABC! We'll update our steps, so be sure to visit again.
