Just like Starbucks®, The Gap.®, Apple®, or Girl Scouts® you are your own brand! And like all great brands, you can use what people know about you to ensure larger sales and reach your goals. People recognize Girl Scout Cookies® as a part of the Girl Scout brand. Your personal brand is a reflection of your core values and passions in life-it's what people know about you. Major marketers follow a few basic rules of branding to get the word out about their products and company. You can do the same, as long as you remember a few basic things.
- Decide what you want your brand to be. If you don't your brand will be determined by outside forces. For example, if you want your brand to be "reliable and enthusiastic," don't arrive late. Or your brand will reflect it.
- Live your brand. Be consistent. A single focus over time becomes clear in people's minds
- Remember where your brand lives. It exists in other people's minds. Their perceptions are their reality.
